The Painted Pony is also known as the Mare Brown bean. An heirloom bean type that is a multi-purpose bean. It can be picked for a green snap bean at about 55-60 days or left to mature for 85-90 days for use as a dry bean. The half brown and half white kidney-shaped bean gives rise to its name. A very sturdy bush habit that grows to 40-45 cm (16-18") tall with a 40-45 cm (16-18”) spread. A very prolific producer of stringless pods. The dry beans retain much of their markings when cooked.
