The Canadian Wonder bean is an heirloom bean type dating back to 1873.  It is primarily grown for the red 'dry' beans it produces which have both the color and shape similar to the common kidney bean.  Plants produce green pods about 15cm (6") long and may be used as fresh snap beans when picked young. It takes between 90-100 days to produce the red dry beans.

Growing Instructions:

Beans Direct sow seeds after the last frost, when soil temperatures have reached at least 16°C (60°F). Select a location that receives full sun. Sow seeds 2.5-5cm (1-2”) deep, spaced 8-15cm (3-6”) apart in rows spaced 45-75cm (18-30”) apart. Keep soil evenly moist to promote germination. Seeds should sprout in 7-10 days. Thin seedlings to 15-20cm (6-8”) apart when they are 5-10cm (2-4”) tall. Bush beans prefer well-drained soil that is fertile and has a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer before planting and again after the first flowers appear. Bush beans can be harvested as snap beans when the pods are still tender and young. Harvest regularly to encourage more production. Bush beans typically reach maturity in 50-60 days for eating and 90-100 days for dry beans.
