BO01300A (2.0 g 90-100 seeds)

An easy to grow, self-seeding plant with vivid blue, star-shaped flowers and cucumber flavored foliage.  Borage plants will grow to a height of about 45 cm (18"), and spread about 30 cm  (12").  Borage is a hardy annual that is native to northern Europe, and grows well in the temperate regions of North America. It attracts bees and is a good companion plant for tomatoes and strawberries.  Borage blooms in late spring to mid-summer.   Harvest leaves and flowers as needed.  Older leaves become prickly. Pinch plant back to keep shorter and promote more dense foliage.

Growing Instructions:

Direct sow seeds in early spring, or start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost for an earlier start. Select a location that receives full sun to partial shade. Sow seeds 1cm (½”) deep, spaced 30-45cm (12-18”) apart. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged to promote germination. Seeds should sprout in 7-14 days. Thin seedlings to 30-45cm (12-18”) apart when they are 5-7cm (2-3”) tall. Borage prefers well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Soil pH should be between 6.0 and 7.5. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer before planting and again after thinning. Borage blooms in mid-summer and attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage prolonged blooming.
