SP34002A (5.0 g 75-100 seeds)
Direct sow seeds in early spring or late summer, depending on your climate. Select a location that receives partial shade in hotter climates and full sun in cooler climates. Sow seeds 1cm (½”) deep, spaced 2.5-7.5cm (1-3”) apart in rows spaced 30cm (12”) apart. Keep soil moist and cool to promote germination. Seeds should sprout in 7-14 days. Thin seedlings to 5-10cm (2-4”) apart when they are 5-7cm (2-3”) tall. Spinach prefers well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Soil pH should be between 6.0 and 7.5. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Spinach can bolt (go to seed) in hot weather, so harvest leaves when they are young and tender. Spinach can be harvested as baby leaves or mature leaves. Mature leaves can be harvested by cutting the entire plant or by picking individual leaves as needed. Spinach is a cool-season crop and will bolt as temperatures rise above 24°C (75°F). Providing shade or planting in a cooler location can help extend the growing season.
