Growing Instructions:

Zucchini is a popular summer squash that is easy to grow in a home garden. It requires warm temperatures and well-drained soil to thrive. Plant zucchini seeds directly in the garden after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up to at least 18°C (65°F). Sow seeds 2.5cm (1”) deep and 60-90cm (24-36”) apart. Plant in a location that receives full sun and has well-drained soil. Zucchini prefers fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. Water the plants regularly, providing 2.5-5cm (1-2”) of water per week. It is best to water the soil directly and avoid getting water on the leaves, as this can lead to disease. Mulching around the plants can help to retain moisture in the soil and prevent weeds from growing. Fertilize zucchini with a balanced fertilizer every two weeks or apply a slow-release fertilizer at the time of planting. Zucchini plants are heavy feeders, so it is important to provide them with sufficient nutrients.

Harvest zucchini when the fruits are 10-20cm (4-8”) long and the skin is tender. Be sure to check the plants regularly, as zucchini can grow quickly and become oversized and tough if left on the plant too long. Zucchini can be used in a variety of dishes, including sautés, stews, and baked goods. It is a versatile vegetable that can be prepared in many ways.
