Growing Instructions:
Cauliflower is a cool-season crop that can be grown in early spring or fall. Choose a location with full sun exposure and well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Sow seeds 1cm (½”) deep, spaced 15-30cm (6-12”) apart in rows spaced 45-60cm (18-24”) apart. Keep soil evenly moist during the germination period, which typically takes 7-14 days. Thin seedlings to 30-45cm (12-18”) apart when they are 10-15cm (4-6”) tall. Cauliflower prefers soil that is slightly acidic with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer before planting, and again 3-4 weeks after planting. Cauliflower can take 60-100 days to mature, depending on the variety. Regular watering and careful weeding are important throughout the growing season. Harvest cauliflower heads when they are fully formed, but before the curds start to separate. Blanching the heads by tying the outer leaves together over the head can help to maintain the color and flavor. After harvesting the main head, small side shoots may continue to develop and can be harvested later.
